Town of Clarkstown

Nanuet TOD Project

Nanuet TOD Project

The Planning Department is working to study and plan the implementation of Transit Oriented Development (TOD) in the Nanuet Hamlet Center. TOD development focuses on providing an innovative mix of commercial and residential uses centered on transit hubs and linked together with pedestrian amenities and networks.

Within the Nanuet Hamlet Center, which is home to the Town’s only commuter rail stop, new zoning will be developed to better reflect and reinforce the traditional main street layout of the area and provide the opportunity for mixed-use development and a variety of housing options for residents seeking to live near, and utilize, the rail stop. The Nanuet TOD Project has also been awarded a $150,000 NYSERDA Cleaner Greener Communities Grant to aid in these efforts. Additionally, the town is working with Patterns for Progress to develop the Hudson Valley Urban Action Agenda (UAA). This document will develop targeted strategies to address major issues confronting the Town, and establish an individualized implementation plan that will assist Clarkstown in pursing funding for specific projects, including the Nanuet Hamlet Center TOD, over the next five years.
