Clarkstown Reaches Contract Agreement with Police

(New City, NY) - Today, the Town of Clarkstown and the Clarkstown PBA ratified an agreement for a new contract, creating a new five-year deal covering 2018 through 2022.

"Consistent with my administration's pledge to control cost within the Police Department, this new agreement is a win-win for town taxpayers and our hard working police force," Hoehmann said.

The new agreement features a wage increase approximately .75% lower than any other recently negotiated PBA contract in the county. It also reduces starting salaries for Officers hired during or after 2018 by $18,000.

Wage increases of 1.7% in 2018 followed by Jour years at 1.8% are significantly lower than those negotiated by the Town in past contracts.

The proposed agreement also reduces the amount of compensatory time Police Officers are entitled to accumulate.  Currently, Police Officers may accumulate up to 480 hours of compensatory time.  Under the new agreement, that amount will be cut in half to 240 hours per officer.  This agreement greatly reduces the Town’s significant $5 million liability in this area and will help the Town better manage overtime expenditures.

"We thank the members of the Clarkstown PBA for working with the Town to negotiate a fair contract for all parties," Hoehmann said.

"This contract is the result of the Town and the PBA working together for the last two years. This overall contract is a fair and equitable agreement that provides a below market salary iincrease and concessions that will enable the Town to better control spending. We want to again thank Supervisor Hoehmann and the Town Board for establishing a good faith process that resulted in a fair contract. Together we will continue to work hard to provide a safe and secure community," said Pete Walker, PBA Vice President.

"Over the past two years our police department has faced several challenges. This new contract is a fresh start and a show of support and confidence in our hardworking police force.  We are blessed to have such capable and dedicated men and women keeping Clarkstown safe," Hoehmann concluded.
